There are passenger trains between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, Haifa and Nahariyya, and an hourly service between Tel Aviv and Haifa. There is only one class of travel with reservable accommodation. All service is suspended on religious holidays and on the Sabbath.
Road
There is daily coach service to Israel from Cairo. Road access can be quite limited, and it's best to contact the Israel Government Tourist Office for the most recent details.
Traveling within Israel is served by an excellent system of roads which connects all towns. There are two national bus systems with inexpensive and extensive services. (Egged and DAN.) Taxi drivers are required by law to operate by the meter.
For those who choose to rent a car, the documentation necessary is a full driving license and insurance. It's also recommended to have an International Driving Permit.
